Kingswood Post Primary School
While at NDBA Architects
The architectural solution involves arranging the required accommodation into linear elements set out on an east-west axis orientation as preferred in the guidance documentation. The Sports Hall is located adjacent to the site and school entrances to facilitate controllable community access and the possibility for enhancement of the facility for community purposes where desired. The ‘Special Needs Unit’ element of the design is likewise located adjacent to the school entrance but nonetheless fully integrated into the overall design and functionality of the school.

Holy Cross Church, Dundrum
Project Architect while at NDBA Architects
The Practice were announced as winners in the Holy Church Parish Church Improvement Ideas Competition. This is the first competition sponsored by the Dublin Diocesan since 1983. The jury praised the winning scheme for “the creation of a Welcome Area including the baptismal font, which would add to the enjoyment of and participation in church celebrations and sacraments”. We have been formally appointed to commence work on the winning scheme and additional works to the parish hall housed beneath the church.

Caorle, Italy
Project Architect while at NDBA Architects
We were approached by a foreign client to design a luxury hotel and resort scheme on a coastal site in Italy. The site lies north west of Venice and has direct access to the sea and beach. The proposal requires the building of a new pier that would accommodate visiting cruise ships and water taxis. The resort would have a large luxury hotel overlooking the beach and Adriatic with smaller villas and serviced apartments on the remainder of the site. The use of earth sculpting and the heavy planting of trees would allow the development have a more intimate feel and reduce the visual impact of the hotel and apartment blocks. The site would be divided into zones clearly defined by both the housing typology used but also the architecture used, thus creating a ‘sense of place’ within this large resort development.

Former Irish Lights Building
While at NDBA Architects
The building on Lower Pembroke Street formally housed the Commissioners for Irish Lights and had laid derelict for a number of years. The building was put on the market and we were asked by our clients to prepare a feasibility study for large luxury serviced apartments. The proposal was to retain the existing front facade which is a fine example of 1940’s architecture and modify and extend the annexes to the rear to accommodate 36 apartments. Parking would use the existing lower ground floor car park but this would be covered over to by a podium to provide private open space to the residences.
